MID LIFE CAREER CRISIS

I am 28 years old and worked for 8 years now. I don’t know if at 28 years old, the above subject title represents best of me, it just doesn’t sound right that I am having a midlife career crisis when I am only 28. And supposedly midlife, it refers to people who change their career when they are about 40 years old. Also, many people changing career during midlife, it probably because of the ailing economy or shrinking company where they are at. But for me, my current skill in my current role lost the challenges that I used to enjoy. Boredom crawls in.

Switching may not be as easy as it seems. Although I thought it will be simplistic, but it is not. One thing that hinders the process of switching to a totally different career must be attributed to the niche industry I am in. Strange as it is, I shouldn’t blame anyone for working in such niche industry, since I am the one chose to pursue this as my education because it is niche.  Irony right?

Another problem when switching should be the potential of suffering a pay cut. My husband asked if I am prepared for a pay cut and I ponders for a while and replied “not really”. At 28, suffering a pay cut isn’t that appealing. Really, I just don’t get it why switching career path must be equivalent to a pay cut if the previous jobs have relevant (although not 100%) experiences. Even though I don’t have any children to support financially yet, but I have got a car, a flat, bills and parents to be financial responsible. The burden can be overwhelming some at some months when servicing of car, household equipment breakdowns, being ill and other commitment to pay occurs.

Haizzzz…

I guess I have the following questions to ask myself before I commit myself to not-so-office job (what I intend to do next).

1)      The impact it will have after I switch
2)      Should I really follow my passion
3)      The skills I have earned over the last 8 years
4)      When do I intend to have a baby
5)      Will switching make things from bad to worse
6)      Will I regret

Lets hope my future directions will be clearer in the weeks to come.

Happy new year everyone!  2014 is on the way in a few more hours ;)

CANDY CRUSH LEVEL 350

Seriously speaking, I hate this level. Not exaggerating, I played this level almost everyday for 3 months and I STILL STUCK AT THIS LEVEL. Very irritating indeed. My best at this level, perhaps there was twice when only 1 jelly left to clear but I am out of moves.

So I googled it, and manage to see a lot of people have the same situation as me. There are some, have to buy boosters to get pass this level.  But I am not buying anything!!

MUFFIN TOP TUMMY

I am not fat but I got a muffin-top tummy. Okay, meaning I don’t have a very flat tummy even when I am not fat. I guess this is quite a common problem for most girls which I noticed when walking down the streets.

At some point, I did crunches and that’s all I do. No other cardio exercise regime to add on. Did it for a while every night before bed but couldn’t see much changes to that muffin top of mine. So I kind of give it all up since it is not working correctly as what I’ve planned. Signed up gym, then realized just by doing crunches to get a flat tummy is totally not correct, as according to the fitness instructor. Circuit training is equally important to build/tone muscle of the overall body. Which means, strength exercise and cardio work has to incorporated into my exercise regime to get a flat tummy as well as other part of the body shaped nicely.

Another exercise which my fitness instructor likes to combine with the rest of the routines is planking and I hated it max. Not as easy as it looks or sounds, but the fitness instructor always tells me all efforts are well worth in order to perfect the body. I still hates it though.

I will be heading to the gym after work later. Hope I can work more on those extra fats.

FLYTOGET then FLIGHTS: OSLO TO SINGAPORE

Had two big luggage from my apartment to the office in the morning. cursing under my breathe that I shouldn't have brought so much things. a couple of presents (made of glass) are heavy. the pavements are made of stone so dragging the two luggage was really tedious, but I only hope the glass inside the luggage were not broken.

after meeting, I left the office. with the help of a very young and handsome colleague, we walked to the airport express train station (flytoget). I hated the express train. not because it was not fast enough, but to get to the train, there are only steps. I had to drag my luggage again. pull and push to put it at the right place. terrible. some paint on my luggage actually tear, so you can image the strength I gather to wrestle around with the luggage. initially wanted to take some picture, I dropped the idea since I was too tired to move my hands.

when the express train arrive the airport station, I have to wrestle with the luggage again to get it off-board. then comes ANOTHER NIGHTMARE, there was no lift from the express train station into the airport. I curse under my breath (again) then took the slow moving escalator. then the nightmare begins... my luggage was the biggest in its size, and I thought I have fasten it carefully with my legs and body when the escalator moved up. and I WAS WRONG. the whole luggage (2 of them) toppled onto me and I fell 3 steps down. my legs hurt like crazy but I couldn't move, as I need to secure and hug on to the luggage. any movement, the luggage move and I move, both of us will fell off and came rolling down the moving escalator steps. I think I hit a lady who stands behind me. if it not her weight, somebody might have to call the ambulance for me, the lady and my 2 luggage. WHY CANT THEY INSTALL LIFT?? when arrive the top, I apologize to the lady continuously then find a chair to look at the damage of my legs. bled a little and few parts of the skin was off. at that very moment, I felt so vulnerable. sat for a while there, calm down a little and off I go shopping at the tax-free shops =)!

below are some photos I took while on the plane. the moon was accompanying me throughout the 1st flight. feel good.

and yes, I took business class =)

2 SLICES OF CAKE ROLLS

I've returned from Oslo to Singapore finally. Work in Singapore wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be (will update more on Oslo soon). And... unexpectedly, I miss my old office. I miss the warm, the laughter and the humanity. Hub says because of cultural and race differences since there never same between Caucasians and Chinese working styles. I nodded.

At lunch, I met Vivien, the ex-colleague.

She gave me a box with 2 slices of cake rolls from Good and Rich (pandan and durian). The ex-colleagues reserve two slices for me, one of each.

Hungry, and looking at the box, I couldn't eat it. The love and warm from the old office. Everytime I looked at the box with 2 slices of cake rolls, emotional feeling surfaced. Eyes are a little wet.

Did I make the right decision to go then? Is it my another reckless move?

Then, another part of my mind was struggling, reasoning by my own that move on is a part of growing as a person. I can stay put in my old office, but what are the benefits I would have if I stayed on. 5 years down the road, how different can I be? What further things will I be able to absorb? Everytime I run through thoughts like that, I felt better. Am I deceiving myself then? Perhaps right now I still able to afford being blind/emotionless for a while. Because I believe many things happen for a reason, fate and already planned destiny, who could really be able to change it. I am not being pessimistic, only trying to make my feelings more positively when thinking through unhappy thoughts.

Back to the 2 slices of cake rolls...

I shared with hub after our dinner. Looking at it, keeping it in the container will not make much difference. I have chose to forsake the old days and going to emerge in a new beginning. Things may look gloomy now and may not be what I have imagine, but I believe everything will falls into place soon. When that time eventually comes, maybe I will smile more confidently. Every bite on that cake rolls make my future brighter...

OK.. crazy! only I can understand...the nonsense thoughts whirling in my head.

NOT A NATURAL BORNED TALENT

I don't have much confident in whatever I do. I tends to get nervous when I have to try something new, something out of my comfort zone. Anxiety will steps in and I would feel unwell. I will make a u-turn then to avoid facing it. Not very good, a hinder to what I wants to achieve.

Coming to Norway, has been a really big step for me. Perhaps, if I was to go Asia countries instead, the impact might not be as great. Communication is certainly the top problem when I'm in Norway. The culture may be ranked second on my uncomfortable list. I am never a borned country person and more like a city girl. I am from a country that never sleeps with bright lights and unstoppable entertainment. I am definitely a well protected girl, shed from all kinds of danger by my family. In fact, I am never alone, with a sister glowing up with me and a husband I am married to always by my side whenever I meet difficulties.

Before boarding the plane, the stress was huge on my part. It may sound silly, but I never was alone in an unfamiliarised country for such long time. But then, there was no backing out in the last minute already. It is my dream to go to a European country alone and experience the life here so why am I complaining like a child. Even a child might have much more courage than I have. And so, I went boarding the plane with a peaceful heart, a gladful heart to be able to experience what I have always dreamt of.

I guess I lack in a lot of things. Some are natural born talent who may have greater talent than myself. But I believe, not everyone who works hard is rewarded BUT all those who succeed have worked hard. So I should work extremely hard to get rewarded. However, even if after working hard and I am still not rewarded, I'll just do it with pride. In the end, everything accomplished resides in my own hands. Something that not everyone would have the opportunity to try and brag about.

Today is my birthday - 17th September. In a country that I never thought I would be. Being here, might be afterall, the greatest present I've received (in term of experience).

When I am old and tells stories to my grandchildren... your grandmother has been to a country with a vast amount of Viking history, meeting friendly people, feeling the cold temperature and eating moose meat for dinner.

Took this picture when I visited the Ski Jump Tower yesterday afternoon. Moose.

NORMAL DAY OF A NORWEGIAN FAMILY

Vegan (a colleague sitting besides me) was really kind to invite me to his house so that I can experience what a normal family in Norway actually lives. I agrees immediately. While in his car, we talked and throughout, I am mainly asking questions. So here goes...his normal working weekday.

He wakes at 630am and prepared his kids for school together with his wife. He reached office at 8am and starts his working day. Around 330pm, he will goes off work and pick up his kids from school. Afterwhich, together with his children, they will go to the grocery store to buy what is needed for the night dinner. The wife will usually cooks while he take a shower, and his kids will go outside to play with neighbours. Dinner time will sit around the table follow by desserts. The man of this house will usually wash the dishes so the wife can spend time checking on the children school work if any. Kids usually goes to bed at 730pm and husband/wife will have some quality time to take about the days happening before going to bed at 11pm latest.

As you can see, compares to Singaporean husband (or wife), they usually works until 6pm or 7pm. By the time they got back home, they are too tired to do anything, either cook/wash dishes/talk to the wife. No quality time is spent with the family. Even during weekends, some jobs requires 24-7 because there is always a mobile phone to stay contactable. THIS IS NOT HEALTY SINGAPORE.

In a report I read a few days ago, Norway is the happiest country to live and work in. NOW I TOTOLLY UNDERSTAND. And right, Singapore is the bottom 5th country in the world to be the happiest which IS NOT GOOD. Understandable, because the living standard is so stressful. I don't wanna blame the riches who came investing in my country and I don't blame the technology is so advanced that we always have to stay the latest to keep up the trend. I guess I can only blame human greed.

So yes, below are pictures of his house and kids.

The kids are really lively and chatty. They actually live in Singapore for 4 years before moving back to Norway. Authur (the younger boy) was born in Singapore. And yes, he is 4 years old this year. Both kids knows Chinese language (they have Chinese names as well) since in Singapore international school, they have to learn as one of the subject. So after dinner, the boys actually sing the Chinese new year song (gong xi gong xi) and the national day pop rhythmic song that we usually sing while in school. We played games and draw some pictures.

Vegan's wife drove me back. As they live half way in the mountain, it was a long drive to the city where my apartment is. Vegan wanted to take me to the famous ski location (the long ski road used in winter Olympics) on Saturday night so we could have dinner around that area. It was initially part of my plan when I am here, but when I checked the route to travel to this location, without a car, it is really difficult. So Vegan's offer was attractive when he mentioned. And of course I said yes. HAHA!

Singapore time now: 515am
Oslo time now: 1115pm

Packed and sleep. I am tired.

Cant wait for tomorrow. Because Johnny (another colleague) is taking me on a boat trip in his newly brought sailing boat after work. Johnny was telling me how he wish it will be windy tomorrow so his sailing boat will be able to move faster. Right, while writing this, I must remember to wrap myself warmly for tomorrow exciting event.

FIRST TIME BUS TO OSLO OFFICE

I planned the route of taking a bus to the Oslo office before I even touch down Oslo. And, to prevent getting lost, I went walking around the neighbourhood and find the correct bus stop which I have found it within 8 minutes. However, this morning when I went to work thinking I got the same correct path to the bus stop, walk and walk, and it is not correct. I remember it was supposed to be straight route no turning until I see some trees but I couldn't find it. So, I have to walk back and find the apartment and reattempt again. Luckily, I got it right finally and I am on time at work.

The bus was awesome, although it was pretty much crowded due to office hours perhaps. What I am talking about the awesomeness is the system on the bus and at the bus stop. There is a time tracker of how long the bus will be arriving. Unlike Singapore, the tracking time system here is really accurate. Then on the bus, there is a system which shows the stops (names) which as a first time tourist in Oslo, is totally amazing. I was counting stops at first, but realized I don't have to do it since the system will tells which stop (name) I have to get down. Here is a picture to illustrate what I am referring.

I fear not to be able to find the office. I remember my boss in Singapore told me about underpass. So, after getting down from the bus, I merely follow where the crowd is heading. And I am right. I manage to find the office building. The office is huge. I love their pantry because it is always stocked with fresh fruits, sandwiches, stealth and sparkling water or even different selection of tea and coffee to choose from. Canteen food was good too although it was not restaurant standard. At least, I got to eat my favourite smoked salmon. Really, no hot food.

Colleagues brought me outside of the office to feel the cold weather when without the jacket. Cool and windy. Nice old building, beautiful sea and the clouds are shaped beautifully. Here is one picture.

After work, I have to get onto the bus but unfortunately, I got onto the wrong one. Blessing as it is, because I spotted a beautiful yacht parking lot. Besides the walkway, squirrel was running around from one patch of grasses to another. Amazing!

Picture might be a little small to see the happy squirrel but visible. When I trying to go closer to take another picture, it ran off. HAHAHA! Cute!

Overall, a good day today. No rain which is important. Met great and friendly colleagues. Capture a happy squirrel. Spotted yachts when I got onto the wrong bus. Like what my mom told me at the airport before I came here, "担心干吗,命运自由安排!"

Singapore time now: 403am
Oslo time now: 1003pm

I am going to pack, wash up and suft some more net before heading to bed for a better day tomorrow.

FIRST DAY IN OSLO

Initially wanted to upload the photo I took in my business class seat for my second flight from Doha to Oslo but I cant find any Bluetooth icon in this computer. perhaps when I return to Singapore then I'll upload a few photos for those people who are interested to know more about Qatar airline. I think it is good to write, not really a review since I have no standard in writing. I did this because before I actually flew over, I took time to research on the airline and the country. It might be useful for ppl for intends to fly the same flight as me and who happens to also am the first time coming to Oslo.

The second flight seat was better. Nope, I dont refer to the movies and songs which is just the same as the first flight - outdated. However, the inflight games are much more interesting then the first flight. The seats may be a bit cramp then the first one I took, but it has more personal space. The seats are individual, which means you don't sit with someone else but yourself. Everyone have their needed private space to do their own thing. I like =) Besides, the guy who serviced me was handsome and sweet. As I did not ordered a lot of food (business class passengers can order food from the menu given which has about 8 selection or special request), he kept coming back and says it might be too little to be filling. HAHA! Somehow, at some point when I ordered a Jasmine tea (I drank half) and fell asleep shortly after, when I awake, the drink is gone. Good service yah - when hot tea turns cold it is a no no. I think I slept about 3 hours and awake for the rest of the 4.5 hours.

Arrival of airport, business class passengers were the first to allow to depart from the plane, which is a good thing since there wasn't any queue when I get my passport stamped and when I collect my luggage. The guy stamping my passport asked me a lot of questions like is this my first time in Oslo, have I booked my hotel and what business I am in which needed for me to be in Oslo... blablabla... very cautious.

I supposed to take the high speed train from airport to National Theatre but I got into the wrong train and headed somewhere else. I asked a guy (also a passenger from the same plane as I am but he was from economy class base on the color of his air ticket) and he helped me carried my luggages and teaches me how to go to where I want to go. When I said i'm intending to take a taxi, he shake his head and give me a no-no. He told me taxi are very expensive here and not worth it, advise me to make use of the public transportation. He added on, "anything that is shortcut is expensive." Very true indeed, because I still went ahead for taxi because my luggages are too big and I have used up my remaining energy. The journey was about 10 mins but my fare was a whopping SGD50.

Manage to find my apartment. Headed out for a walk around the neighbourhood, and of course to find the bus stop which I have to board a bus for work tomorrow. Was suppose to buy a pizza back as dinner but decided to go for Macdonald instead. I had 6 nuggets, fries and sprite, and it cost me SGD20 which is very expensive consider the fact that with what I have eaten, it will only cost my pocket SGD6 in Singapore. Asked for curry sauce to go with my nuggets, which is a wrong move, because the curry sauce was like bbq sauce. No chillies only tomatoes sauces. Told hub about it and hub said European doesn't fancy spicy. I guess so.

I am currently in the I-WANT-TO-GO-BACK-SINGAPORE mood. The apartment was very warm and stuffy. Lights were dim and there was no way I can make it brighter. I went down to the reception and told her my concerns if there is any air condition to cool my room. She gave me a straight face and replied, "80% of Norwegian homes have no air conditional." HAHA. I am glad at this hour (840pm Norwegian time), the room finally becomes much cooler. This also signify that outside temperature will be 2x colder than indoor temperature.

Tomorrow will be my first day to Oslo head office for training of new system and processes. Nevertheless, first, I must reach the bus stop and get onto the right bus, stop at the right stop then gotta find the right way to the office which is the most challenging part.

Singapore timing now: 242am
Oslo timing now: 842pm

I am going to pack a bit, watch some videos then head for bed. Base on the experience I have today, I finally understand why when I asked my new colleagues in Singapore if they like it here and they replied no. HAHAHAHA!!! So, this is how they feel now like how I feel.

AT DOHA AIRPORT PREMIUM TRANSIT

I have finally reach Doha airport after a long 7.5hrs flight. I am lucky with the huge leg room, good service from crew, high class breakfast and warm flight. Yes, such may be impossible for economy class flight. And yes, I am taking a business class flight this time round.

Although I have lots of praise as said above, but there are two things which I thought can be really improve. The movie selection are at minimum and old. There wasn't a wide selection either. Music was more on the 80s. I ended up sleeping through and played my iPad mini. The screen information of how long the arrival time and distance wasn't stated. Almost all of my time I am guessing how long more before we reach Doha when only I am not snoozing away.

I am glad a young lady sat beside me. We had some jokes and get to know each other a bit before we both slept throughout. She was from Qatar itself and came from the flight Bali. I forgot her name, except her positive warm jokes.

Anyway, the Qatar business lounge wasn't as impressive as I have thought before I flew. It was small and nothing too entertaining. As I am alone, I need to juggle with luggages alone. Taking a drink seems difficult when my hands are all full. But I'll try later, because I'm really thirsty. There is a small selection of buffet for business class transit passengers to fill their stomach. I haven't explore much on the food, since the inboard crew kept coming up with good food.

Before I came, read through some reviews which comment the lounge itself have massage chair and Xbox for entertainment. But I haven't seen any yet. Maybe I haven't really walk too much myself, I'll go explore later. However, shouldn't they have some brochures at the reception table for passengers to easy explore and place? Just my piece of thought.

Parents, sister and hub came sending me off. The feelings is great.

I have another connecting flight coming up in 2hrs time to Oslo. Then, another 7.5hrs flight. Hope I can get some sleep again. I need lots of energy to find train and my going-to-stay apartment for the next 2 weeks. Wish me luck. I'll update more later.

When you are alone, blog seems to be my next best friend. Hahaha...!!

Singapore time now : 1045am
Doha time now :545am

CREDIT CARD USAGE IN EUROPE

hub sent me this article last night since I will be flying to Oslo tomorrow. But this is a very good article. this is because 2 years ago I went to Europe and have some difficulties when trying to use the credit card. the sale staff over there tends to ask for your credit card pincode which usually... Singaporeans don't have I suppose.

--
Many people from the U.S, who visit Europe each year, encounter the issue of needing a PIN to use his/her credit card. Many of you (like me initially) try all your cards and end up leaving or using cash. Let me clear up these issues so that my fellow travelers won’t run into these problems any more.

About using

Here is the entire process:

1.) Check whether there is a slot to slide your credit card through. I do not mean the slot which says CHIP, this is for the new cards with smart chips, which I will explain later.

2.) Slide your card (like normally) through the card reader.

Generally:

3.) When the screen, which asks for the code, “kod” (Swedish) pops up. Ask the person at the desk to punch the far right button (usually) to select for the SIGN FOR option.

For Norway:

3.) When the screen, which asks for the code pops up. Press the STOP key . And you should see a screen asking whether you want to sign for the bill pop up on the screen. Press ‘Yes’.,

4.) A person operating at the desk should print out a receipt, which you will sign. The receipt however does have a field for ID.

5.) Just fill in whatever you want for the ID. I love to just write ’12345′ and see if anyone notices :)

About Smart Chip
Many European nations require credit cards with smart chips. If you don’t have one, call up Chase, and ask them since many of their cards now, do have the chips.  These include: BA Visa, Hyatt Visa, and more.

RIGHT-SIDE CAR TYRE PUNCTURED

A busy night today.

My car right side tyre is punctured. It was punctured yesterday actually and we just drove to the nearest Shell to pump up the air. The air set nicely inside and we head to supper at KFC. Drove back and nothing happens so we thought the air just went off since we didn’t hear any loud sound made from the tyre. Today we verified the tyre condition and there it goes, total FLAT. We struggle to the nearest Shell station again to pump up the air with great embarrassment. Because we are using the tyre rim to bring us to the Shell station, on the road itself, it produce loud sound. Onlookers kept staring at us but really, there is nothing we can do. Hub vouch there was no equipment for us to change to our spare tyre so there is really no way out but to drive to the Shell station to pump up the air and then drove to one of the tyre company who operates at this late hour.

Horribly, when we tried to pump up the air, we notice the really big hole on the tyre. The tyre is officially GONE CASE. Look at the picture below.

We frantically make calls to tow companies and friends. Many of the tow companies did not pick up their phone and when one eventually did, he charge SGD80 to just change to the spare tyre itself. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NIGHT-LIGHT ROBBERY.

After hassle here and there, getting more panicked than we should be, a very nice Shell employee (pump attendant) came to our rescue. We gave him some tips for his effort and his smile wide. The reason for the tips is because the previous night when we goes into the Shell, he helped us with the pump and tonight, he offered his help to asking cars who came in for pump for their equipment, then help us change to the spare tyre so we can safely goes to the tyre shop to make purchase. He is nice. His name is Hary.

Look at the picture. It is a lot of differences when spare tyre vs the actual tyre.

Anyway, we eventually settle the tyre issues. Dunlop brand.

DO YOU PLAN?

Do you plan your time?

I do usually. Such as on a Saturday where hub and I don’t have to go to the office, I would often ask him on Friday night what our schedule is on Saturday. Sometimes he get pissed, because he just don’t get it why must we plan everything in advance when it is a free day for both of us. Although he don’t like it, I continue though. Pester him with answer every Friday night. Haha! Well, it is true that getting a planned schedule can help make my time to be more organise, sometimes, I just pester him for fun. Those irritated face and tone of his does make my Friday night joyful. Ended on a good note.

HAHA!

I feel…

Planning is a critical factor in our life. A skill that is worth a fortune. This is so because there is often a saying that an hour spent in planning a task will save approximately three hours of work in carrying it out.

Do you agree?

Of course, it is not often necessary to plan everything we go for the next minute or the next hour. A too well organised life structure may bring stress and pressure. Long term planning, mid-term planning or short term planning are three types of plan which one should develop them in sequence. From short, to mid then goes to long term. Short term planning may be the task to do today or tomorrow. Mid-term planning can be classified what to achieve over a year horizon. Long term planning can be focuses on career and life goals. It is not difficult to plan but I feel it requires effort to accomplish those plans that are set in the first place.

Lets see mine…

Short term plan: have a good dinner
Mid-term term plan: stable career and have a kid
Long term plan: a bigger house and a bigger car

Perhaps the objective should stick to SMART – strategic, measureable, agreed, realistic and timed.
So do have plans?

Or at the end of the day it is just because I am a virgo (horoscope).

CANON G15 or SAMSUNG EX2F

Right, I shouldn’t went shops to self-test the EX2F since I have already decided not to buy it. I must salute temptation and human greed, because I clearly failed to control myself.  I still went ahead to hold the camera and test shot a few photos. It is really NICE!! Hahaha… the feel, the weight, the wifi and the f1.4 bright lens kept attracting me to look towards it direction. Still, the price is the greatest stopping factor.

Another camera which I fancy is G15. The handling experience is similar to my DSLR. The quality is top-notch. However, G15 lacks swivel screen and wifi which kind of the main attraction for me in terms of a compact camera. Although these 2 features are not the really important details to consider as a camera on a whole, but since I am going to Norway alone, easy self-portrait is key.

So really, what should I buy? G15 vs EX2F? Quality vs wifi/self-protrait.
Or should I just save the bucks and bring my DSLR?

AIYO!!

Here is a brief review of G15:
Now, with the launch of the G15, Canon has added back one of the original selling points of the G-series; a genuinely fast zoom lens. This covers the same 28-140mm equivalent focal length range as the G12's, but is a stop and a third faster, at F1.8-2.8 rather than F2.8-4.5. This gives the G15 a distinct advantage over its predecessor not only in low light, but also in the ability to blur backgrounds a bit more when shooting at the long end of the zoom.

But while Canon gives with one hand, it takes away with the other. The G15's rear screen is fixed, rather than articulated, a move that Canon says was necessary to make the camera smaller and more pocketable. The G15 is indeed significantly slimmer than its predecessor - by about 15% with the lens retracted - but we can't help but feel that as many potential buyers will be dismayed by the loss of this useful feature as there will be enthusiasts who are delighted by the camera's portability. The G15's screen itself is a large, high-resolution 3" 920k dot unit with a tempered glass cover and a wide viewing angle.

On the right hand flank of the camera - viewed from the back - we find covered ports for HDMI out, an optional remote shutter release cable plus combined USB 2.0/AV out connection. On the bottom is a familiar metal screw thread for a tripod, and a sliding cover for the compartment that houses the lithium-ion battery needed for power and the SD, SDHC or SDXC cards needed for image storage. Curiously, battery life is less impressive than its G11 forebear, at around 350 shots from a full charge rather than 370.

Samsung EX2F

I must say, I have been a Samsung fan 10 years ago to date! hahaha!

My first mobile phone that I owned was actually a Samsung flip phone. Cant really remember the model I used since it was about 10 years ago. I had great pleasure on that phone. It was silver, 3 games, colored and really nothing else. When everyone was still using the non-colored phone with boring ringtone, I managed to persuade my mom to get me this. I love those games even though there are only 3. I love the 10 selection of ringtones, although no customisation was allowed at that time. Ahh, those were the days… easily satisfied!

Later on, I changed a couple of phones. HTC, blackberry, windows phone … then I am back with Samsung galaxy S2 2 years ago to date. I am a typical Samsung fan. I love their innovation and how my phone matches my character through easy customisation. And when my new company decided to get me a new phone for work purposes, I turn to Samsung again =)

They have this really awesome camera – EX2F. I love the compact and solid feel of it. I read reviews and see reviews from different websites and youtube, and fell madly in love with this little thing.

However, when I decided to purchase it so I can bring to Norway, the reluctances occur. I look at my Canon DSLR on the right, then face the computer screen featuring the EX2F, then turn towards my DSLR again… there it goes… bam! I decided not to spend those extra bucks. Disappointing of course. But then, if I really did purchase the EX2F, what about my DSLR which not-yet fails me. And when money has been tight, I shouldn’t spend those bucks like that. I just scare I might regret after purchase made. If only there will be kind soul to sponsor this little fellow… nah… no one will… haizzz

Anyway, for those who are interested, here is a little review of the EX2F:

The lens itself is extremely versatile on account of its bright maximum aperture of f/1.4. Even at full telephoto, equivalent to 80mm on a regular 35mm camera (it's a moderate 24mm at the opposite end of the scale), it stands at f/2.7, which many rival compacts struggle to achieve at wide angle.

This means it's easy to take some really short-focused shots, with the subject clearly pulled away from its surroundings to draw the eye.

Minimum focusing distance is 40cm at wide angle and 100cm at telephoto, although wide angle macro shots can be recorded with the lens as close as 1cm from the subject.

The EX2F has a back side-illuminated 12-megapixel sensor, which produces shots of 4,000x3,000 pixels. That's plenty for printing at A2 size and above when using an online commercial printer. It also allows for moderate, although not particularly tight, cropping.

However, the digital zoom, which backs up the physical 3.3x range of the lens, is pretty good. When used with care, its cropping and enhancing of the central part of the image doesn't greatly degrade the result.

WORKING HOURS OF DIFF COUNTRIES

I was browsing news early in the morning and came across a very interesting article. They did an analysis on the number of working hours between several countries.

Blue: American
Green: German
Red: French
Brown: Singaporean
Orange: Korean
Purple: Hong Kong

No wonder Singaporeans nowadays have a lot of issues in their health, such as indigestion. Because we are overworked with stressful lives and not enough rest. Ha ha !!

TEMPERATURE IN NORWAY

I am preparing to go Norway for the whole of September now. Researching on the country, the nature the country has is something I am looking forward to.

\\
Did You Know?
Highest temperature recorded in Norway is 35,6°C (Nesbyen 20 Jun. 1970).
Lowest temperature recorded in Norway is -51,4°C (Karasjok 1 Jan. 1886).
\\

The only thing I am not looking forward to is the temperature.

August supposes to be the end of Summer and temperature typically stays around 20 deg. But, these few days when I monitored the temperature in August, it stays around 10 deg. So if summer is supposedly that cold, what would happen in September (autumn). I guess I must be prepared the temperature to stays around 5 deg in September. Then again, there nothing much I can do except brings thicker/more clothings. I just hope the apartment I will be staying in is heated.

During lunch, patsee was telling me due to the long hours of flight from Singapore to Norway, the company might buy me a first class air plane seat. I do not be bothered really. Economical is fine although a total of 13 hrs (straight flight) is needed. All I wish for is safe flight. As long as I am alive, not being nauseous throughout, I will be more than thankful. Best is I am able to sleep and when I wake up, soon to be land =)

So looking forward.

FRENCH DINNER

I was invited to a dinner with my new company (operation dept) at a special French restaurant. Without the help of Google map, don’t think I am able to locate the place.

L’Angelus.

It was very romantic on the outside of the restaurant. They decorated it well with bright small flowers. It looks like a typical European small cottage. Inside of the restaurant was hanging with many special French posters. The brown and dim yellow lights create a very soothing and calm place to relax after a long day of work. I was 5 mins late, as I have to walk from Chinatown MRT and rely on google map to bring me to the correct place. I was afraid that I am unable to find the place at first, but I did it still. Hooray to me!!

We were given menus (food/wine) to choose our dinner. I had Escagots for starter and Roasted duck breast cooked medium as my main. When my duck came, it was embarrassing. I ate it. Then subsequently I realized I have to wait for the sides. (yah! Whatever!) Accompanied by fantastic red wine, I must say the dinner was really first-class

I will patronize again.

I was a little out of place during the dinner. New colleagues spoke English slang. I had some difficulties understanding it. They are made up of Singaporean, Norwegians and Indians. Lucky I am able to grasp what they are talking about after 15 mins into the dinner. I tried to join in the conversations, but mostly, I sat there listening and smiling. I rather stay quiet then talking something unnecessary. It was our first meeting afterall; I am trying not to look bad.

After the dinner, it lessens the discomfort of all the concerns I have previously of having to be sent to Norway for a month. I realized every single one of them travels a lot. Some of them were torment by the cold winter when heater wasn’t available. I should count myself very lucky to be sent to Norway during their autumn. If they can do it, why can’t I?

I am looking forward to having the opportunity to work in Norway in September/October. I am going to take lots of pictures. One day, when I have children and grandchildren, I am going to SHOW OFF. Ahahahhahaa!!!

You can do it FANNIE… HWAITING!!!

SIGNED AND TENDERED

Yesterday, I’ve finally made my decision.
To fly higher, to soar further.
Plucked up full courage to tender,
Plucked up full courage to sign.
At 27, energy in life must be fully charged.
I have been lethargic for 4 years already.
Just enough time to recuperate my health to be in green.
Although anxiety attacks occurs sometimes,
I just have to learn breathing deeper.

Training in Norway was necessary for the new signage company.
I have support from friends and family.
I think I am finally ready to go out to see the world.
It’s paid for so why not.
Although I am scared because I will be alone in a cold country,
Never try never knowing.
Looking back when I am old,
No regretless will be mention.

I am ready.
I am looking forward.

Dear god, pls protect me when I am there.

BIG BANG =)

I got obsessed with BIG BANG after an episode of them in RUNNING MAN. In fact, I started to enjoy their music a while ago but didn’t take too notice of who are them. I like their high confidence in their own style, take high pride in their creativity in music and how each individual still stands out when they do their solo interest.

I like TOP the best. Humble and kind. The jawline and his electric eyes… owwwww!

CURRENT KOREAN LESSON 2

^ I will be naming the title of my blog in sequence of current Korean lesson for my own tracing purpose ^

2 more lessons and I am finally completing Korean Basic Level 2. So happy >.<

Actually, I did complete my level 2 while taking lessons in the CC 2 years before. Since I forgotten most of it, I had a hard time to keep up in this level. I noticed the dragging of feet to class nowadays (which is not good) but I still go for the classes. As the classes shrink when leveling up, 70% chance of saeng-sae-nim to be calling my name and asking questions like what I did yesterday and the day before ensues. It stresses me out most of the time as I had to listen hard on the questions he asked in Korean and replied in Korean. However, I must admit I do enjoy the conversation part as it tells me where my language proficiency stands.

Just this Monday, we have completed the ‘Directions’ chapter. Turn left, turn right, go straight, behind/below and front are the most common words to use when giving directions either through driving or walking. The school is great. They did grocery maps and around-the-school maps for us to stimulate the directions. It was really interesting when classmates try to get off with when saeng-sae-nim asked how to go to a certain place and everything was go straight then goes straight. HAHAAHA!! At some point, saeng-sae-nim was so confused that he had to use his google map to track where we are heading to =D . We had lots of laughter in last night class.

The coming lesson will be on ‘Phone calls’. I am looking forward to it.

But till now, let me brush up on my vocabulary =)

감사합니다

A BELL-CURVED EMOTION

I was angry at work today.
Someone pissed me off badly.
I think I raised my voice because I couldn’t take it the way she put words into my mouth.
Shouldn’t have done that, because it seems I am weak.
But maybe I was the fact about being weak emotionally.

I could sense my heart shrank in that few minutes when I was overly-powered by anger and frustration.
Fingers shaking and I couldn’t breathe too well.
Yes, I have anxiety issues these few years.

I tried to breathe gently, to regain my posture.
I tried killing her in my heart then forgive her because she was dead.

Then she started talking again,
And I presume she turned into a zombie.
I shouldn’t be anger by a zombie, not worth it totally.
Talking to a non-living thing was a waste of effort.
Then slowly, the anger and shivering subside. I forgave her successfully.

That few minutes, my emotions seem to work like a bell-curve.

Now my gastric doesn’t seem well.
Must be the gala from just now.
Grr… I shouldn’t have flare.

ELDERLY VOLUNTEER LOVE

I went to do volunteer work on Saturday 29/06/13. A fulfilling day; a day which shows me the poverty side of Singapore. I learnt a lot just that one day.

This guy (a friend of hub and sis) is the sponsor for the whole program on Saturday. I heard he actually raised funds through friends and family in order to do this one-time thing. The plan was to work with other volunteers in the lion befrienders program, to bring the elderly out for shopping and eating, follow by a house visitation to end the day.

There are a total of 25 volunteers pairing up with 12 elderly. We are then separated into different groups’ basis our dialect for smooth communication.  I am lucky, because I was assigned to an elderly who can speak teochew and mandarin. So throughout the trip, we do not experience language breakdowns =)

These elderly are in the program of lion befrienders. They are usually alone and living in one room flat. So elderly who can afford the rent of the entire flat have it the whole one room flat themselves, others shared the one room flat with another roommate. The room was old, but bright and airy enough. The flat comes with an emergency bell, whereby if they require any assistance, an alarm will trigger at the void deck to alert passerby to help calls the police or ambulance.

Most elderly whom I talked to, have financial worries. They are given monthly allowances, which after deducting the rent and bills; they basically left about $10 a day for food/miscs expenses. Most depends on food ration given end of the month by different charity organization. Sometimes, in order to save some money, they would not on lights at night, they would not watch too much television and they would often dine Maggie mee.

As we walked the estate below the blks, many elderly came up for a chat. Some thought we are painters to paint their flat (other batch of volunteers) and smile widely; even when we said we are not, their smile stays and walks away.

I feel so much love on Saturday. Such love, are money cannot buy.

STOPPED AGAIN

I got stopped by mrt security guards again when I am running after the train (as always, wake up late for work). When the guards opened my bag and saw it books, they apologize and I walk away without expression. It’s two times to date, and I sounded like I am getting used to it already. Told my colleagues when I reached office, and they suggest I add more colors on my bag (my bag is total black and is huge) or I just hang my pink IC around my neck (-.- !!!)

It is not a crime to study and put books in my huge black bag!!! Obviously I can’t shout that to the security guards as they are doing their jobs, so I just shouted inside me. ONLY I know… hahaha!

THE INNOCENT MAN

3 more lessons and I’ve completed my Korean basic level 1.

Although I have finished Korean basic level 2 in the CC, in fact, I feel I learnt more when I’m with this language school. Even though the teacher wasn’t as strict as the one in CC, but Kang 선생님 easy-going attitude makes the whole class learnt more. I guess 2 lessons per week did help too, as you won’t tend to forget what you have learnt that quickly.

So, congratulations to myself, as I am soon going to succeed Korean basic level 1 (smile wide!) and going to basic level 2 (clap clap). Now I can read words and pronounce them as accurate as it suppose to. I am so going to a doraebang and sing some k-pop! (HAHA)

Anyway, recently I got addicted to one Korean drama – The Innocent Man. Initially, I saw the drama because of Song Joong Ki and Lee Kwang Soo. But now, as the story progress, I am addicted to the content.

The plot:
Smart and promising medical student Kang Ma-ru has been in love all his life with his slightly older next-door neighbor Han Jae-hee, a television reporter. He is an adoring boyfriend and she always considered Ma-ru her home. But when her situation takes a turn for the worse and Jae-hee becomes desperate to escape poverty, she meets a man who changes everything—a rich CEO who introduces her to a life of comfort. So she turns her back on Ma-ru, choosing money over love.
The brutal betrayal leaves Ma-ru fractured—not just angry, but a completely changed man. A few years later, Ma-ru is now 30 years old and works as a bartender and gigolo, no longer a "nice guy." He then meets Seo Eun-gi, a young heiress who's being groomed to take over her father's conglomerate. Eun-gi is cold and calculating, business-savvy, and raised by her father to never show emotion to anyone. But Ma-ru intrigues her, and she becomes curious until she can’t stop thinking about him.
Ma-ru decides to take advantage of her as a pawn in his plans for revenge, and Eun-gi falls in love with him, not knowing that he’s using her to get back at his ex Jae-hee, who happens to be Eun-gi's young, gold-digging stepmother. Just when Ma-ru is beginning to genuinely care for Eun-gi, she finds out the truth and they break up. But a car accident causes Eun-gi to lose her memory, and she enters Ma-ru's life again.

SMELLY BURNT HAZE

Haze is very bad in Singapore nowadays. The burnt smell is everywhere, including the inside of the house, subway stations and … basically everywhere. Although to some countries is common, but in Singapore, not at all.
It is a common sight to see people wearing masks no matter where you go. It seems to be a trend (haha).

Let’s hope the haze will go away soon.

CURRENT KOREAN LESSON

I am now studying up to Korean level 1 chapter 4. Which means… I have finished the ‘restaurant’ chapter. (happy!) I can’t wait to go Korean restaurant and order food. Hub promised to bring me to Korea next year. Although my parents brought me there many years ago, I don’t mind to go again since I started the language. I have to use it somehow, or it will really be a waste of money.

I guess today saeng-sae-nim will teach chapter 5 ‘shopping’.

DRY GINGER ALE

I tried the Dry Ginger Ale finally last Friday and am super regretful.

Articles from the internet said that Ginger ale, as with other ginger products, is often used as a home remedy to alleviate indigestion or motion sickness, or to relieve and to soothe coughs and sore throats. Studies on its effectiveness as an anti-emetic have produced mixed results, with most finding that ginger extract will relieve symptoms of nausea.
But why it don’t work exactly like what it said on me?? WHYYYYYY!!!

It was extremely gassy. I open the cap and let it stand for 30 minutes until I no longer hear the sizzling sound before consuming it. It tasted like sprite, and I was enjoying the sweetness and a slight ginger flavor of it. I felt my stomach began the gassy bloatedness and slowly after, my lungs seem to clock up air. Then I can feel slight pain on my right lung. I tried to burp the gas out.

Few hours after, the pain in the right lung intensifies. So I use the tactic I learnt from yoga to try breathing the air out rapidly. Then, I asked hub to rub his hands real hot and rub the lung area, hoping to ease the pain. Stomach continues to be bloated with many gas that either got stuck somewhere in my respiratory tube or pass out a little when I clear my bowel. I went to sleep afterthat.

Next day, I was glad my lung no longer hurts although it does feel a little sore. Unfortunately, my stomach still feels extremely bloated with gas.

Anyway, it goes fine after 3 days. I am so not going to try this drink again. I have to learn not being adventurous from now on.

SPRITE / 7-UP / GINGER ALE

My colleague is in her 1st trimester and she horribly having the effect of being nauseous. So I helped her to source in Google to find out the best method to prevent nauseous. I am usually helpful you see… (haha!), as in, sometimes I do get nauseous too whenever I am having my anxiety attacks. Then I saw one particular website, quoted saying ...

Sprite,7up, and ginger ale are all good for the flu they help with nausea and also help your stomach settle by neutralizing some of the acid in your stomach.”

I am so gonna try it later ;)) of course, introducing to my colleague as well.

MRT SECURITY GUARDS

Amazingly, surprisingly...

I was being stop by the MRT security guard when I got into the train station at Explanade. My big black backpack did that trigger that I thought it will never be me. It's was too big not to be notice when I got files and books from my Korean school. When I opened my bag and told her it was books, she was ashamed (from her expression) and let me go within that 10 seconds.

I am not criticizing that she stop me, I am just surprise that I have been bringing this huge backpack for a month everyday with my Korean textbook and files, walking pass her and she only check me now. I just find it funny that's all. Ok, she is only doing her job.

Now I begin to wonder how these security guards target people to check bags. Then from my observation, it seems like they only checking bags that are big, certain race and when people are avoiding them. But seriously, is this the right checklist to begin with?

Anyway, tomorrow I will walk pass her again. Lets see if she stop me. Haha!!!

JUST LIKE ME 同病相怜

Saw JH in the food republic while having dinner before my 1st Korean lesson in the school. It was weird at first, since we are always with colleagues. But we talked still, because it will be much weirder if we only sat and eat.

He told me he was sick for more than a week. Then I come to realize he has the same health problem as me, which sometimes the virus (which I tends to call it since it just don’t disappear) can be distracting and uncomfortable. I am an ex-gastric patient. Once the pain begins, I coil in my bed. Anyway, the rest are history and like I said, I am an ex-patient.

It’s been a couple of years whereby I am tormented with stomach bloatedness. It is worse than gastric pain in my opinion. The bloatedness which makes me nauseous (the vomiting effect) sometimes affect my daily life. Not that I cannot function, it just that it is making me function abnormally. Such as, when there is a working lunch meeting, I could go off in the middle of it because the food makes me uncomfortable in the stomach (feeling of indigestion then wanting to vomit) which can be embarrassing. So eating out becomes a ‘stress’ factor for the reason that I must be cautious of the food I eat.

Slowly down the road, I realized part of the reason for causing the bloatedness/nauseous feeling. Bloating = Anxiety? I realized that everytime I am tense, stress or anxiety, the nauseous feeling appears. Hence, plum is always with me wherever I go in case I need it. I did an anxiety test online; I am 47%, a moderate anxiety percentage.

There are several specific elimination method to make an anxiety person better (personal view since it works for me), such as yoga, breathing technique, herbal remedies and soothing music. There isn't a rapid cure for anxiety. The fastest ways to cure anxiety should be how one person handles it. JH agrees with me since this is what he do when he had an anxiety attack (bloatedness/nauseous).

I guess we know each other better after yesterday dinner. Perhaps it is fate that brought us together for a meal, to let us know we are not the only one facing this problem. Never alone. And it is not a shameless thing to admit.
